Building Business for Customers

At EXS we are justly proud of our achievements and continue to have an extensive exposure to a diverse range of networking projects, installing many types of systems for Schools, Colleges, Universities, NHS Trusts and Commercial establishments.

Here is just a sample selection of contracts awarded, either through competitive tender within the construction industry sector or direct via existing business relationships:

Jesus College, Cambridge

Appointed through our existing business relationship with the college to survey, install & commission a complete new site wide fibre optic IT infrastructure using single mode OS1 fibre cabling to replace existing multimode OM1. By the end of the project (due to complete in March 2011), EXS engineers will have laid over 6.5Kmtrs of new fibre via existing underground ducts across the whole college campus. In addition to this EXS enginners will replace nearly 40 campus network nodes with new communications cabinets and carry out rationalisation of existing copper cabling at each node, in preparation for college IT staff to deploy new POE switch devices.

 

Produce World Ltd

Appointed through our existing business relationship to survey, design, install & commission a complete site wide wireless network at each of their sites; to support wireless barcode scanners across the whole of the food production areas. Detailed site surveys determined exact wireless coverage with new cabling, HP Procurve POE switches and wireless access points being installed at key locations to support on site operations. New access controllers at each site, now allows easy central management of all the local wired and wireless network devices over the clients existing WAN. This project started in 2009 with sites at Peterborough, Isleham and March now completed. Later in 2010 two further sites in Boston, Lincolnshire will be completed culminating in a significant investment of wireless technology for Produce World Ltd.

Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge (New Library and IT Centre)

Appointed via competitive tender; working with successful Cambridge based M&E contractor to provide new Category5e structured cabling system, consisting of almost 600 serviceoutlets to new library and IT centre building over four floors.

Building work started on the £5 million New Library & IT Centre in 2008 and is due for completion October 2009. The building will provide 100% more reader spaces, 50% more computer spaces and 60,000 volumes on open access.

Cambridge Regional College View Single Site Animation

Awarded to EXS by Marriot Construction via tender process. The 'single site' project sees the Kings Hedges campus undergo significant expansion and refurbishment including two new buildings and major refurbishment to the reception and sports hall facilities. Construction work on the campus  started in April 2008 and was completed in April 2009.

EXS will provide campus fibre backbones to new outlying buildings and a total expansion of Category 5e network service outlets in excess of 1,700 points. The preferred cabling system vendor will be "Nexans UK ". EXS will also provide new Core switch hardware and design and install a campus wide wireless LAN, using HP Procurve networking equipment and management software.

Newnham College Cambridge

Design and installation of new campus wide fibre optic backbone infrastructure with new gigabit compliant links to no less than fourteen buildings. Alongside this work EXS engineers had to incorporate significant rationalisation and relocation of existing server/comms rooms as part of the new design. EXS have further been contracted to design, supply and install new HP Procurve switch technologies which are to be phased in during early 2008. These will replace legacy technology and provide the necessary bandwidth for the college's future requirements.

Corpus Christi Cambridge, New Library

Appointed through successful M&E contractor to provide new Category 5e structured cabling system consisting in excess of 200 service outlets to new library building, together with associated telecoms and fibre optic links back to main college network.

Peterborough Regional College

Appointed through formal tender process to provide new IT Network cabling at the college campus on an ongoing basis for 12 months possibly 2 years. The college have an ongoing requirement for cabling services from regular moves, changes and refurbishments and have chosen EXS as a preferred supplier to support the facilities department in providing these services within budget and on time.

Barnardos, NW10 London

Appointed through successful M&E contractor to provide new Category 5e cabling infrastructure for this new family centre in North London.

The Johnson Publishing Group

Appointed through existing business relationship to upgrade existing infrastructure with additional Category 5e cabling and new communications cabinets, at circa 20 sites within the eastern region, in preparation for Voice over IP integration.

Cambridge Regional College

Awarded via successful M&E contractor, to provide extended IT Infrastructure for new SMARTLIFE construction project on the campus, using "Nexans " Structured Cabling System. Smartlife is an innovative pilot project led by Cambridgeshire county council to address the challenge of housing delivery through affordability and sustainability and skills/capacity shortages in growth areas. The project was completed in March 2006.

Grantham College

Completed contract to provide extended IT Infrastructure for new Visual Arts building, using "Nexans" Structured Cabling system consisting of Category 5e service outlets, Multimode fibre backbones and telecoms extension for voice services. The college also employed new Gigabit switching technology throughout the campus using HP5300 and HP4100 series core switches. EXS provided the hardware together with design and installation services. The project was completed on time and within the budget.

Bourne Grammar School, Lincolnshire

Design and installation of new campus wide wireless network using 'Proxim' equipment... Incorporating new school building extension for which EXS were contracted to install Category 5e Structured Cabling System, Gigabit Fibre Backbone and Voice services. HP Procurve networking switches were supplied and commissioned by EXS to provide the necessary bandwidth requirements.

Queen Margaret's School, York

Awarded contract to install complete campus wide wireless network infrastructure for student internet access and e-mail facilities.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust

Major upgrade to Category 5e of the Pilgrim Hospital network infrastructure to all areas of the site including new Fibre Optic backbones to allow NHS staff site wide e-mail services. A major project including relocation of computer room equipment and working in sensitive areas of the hospital. The tender was completed on time and within budget.
